I’ve been looking back through my UBuildIt planning book and notes while taking the time to think about all that Cindy and I have accomplished this year. I Know quite well that our accomplishments were only possible with the help of UBuildIt’s methodology and more specifically you serving as our construction consultant and guide. We started our design and planning ins Mid-January 2021 and managed to complete a 1,850sqft addition that nearly doubled the size of our home in Edmond in roughly six months.

The project wasn’t without challenges that were out of our control – a bitter cold winter, COVID and material shortages. Rob, as a result of your inside-the-business awareness, you saved us a lot of time and money. We managed to order our lumber, windows, and door package well before the shortages hit and prices escalated. You also helped us figure out the cost/benefit of several modifications to the original plan that would have resulted in costly change orders in a typical contractor build arrangement. I also recall a couple of issues surfacing that I didn’t know how to handle. You were always available and quickly arrived to bail me out – recall the missing 10” of kitchen in the design plan that created a misalignment with the footers and already installed underground kitchen plumbing? You sent me to Lowe’s for some PVC pipe while you reset the location for the kitchen drain. When I returned it was after dark and we were in a cold ditch gluing in a new underground drainpipe. All this was done to keep me on schedule for pouring the foundation the next morning. This is just one of a couple of emergency help calls that you flew in to resolve. I told Cindy that “Helicopter Rob” flew in to save me one more time. All good memories.

And now a few of Rob’s words of wisdom I shall never forget:

1. This is a You-BuildIt, not Rob-BuildIt. It’s all up to you John.
2. I will direct and push you as quickly as you want to meet your end date – recall #1 above.
3. It’s your money. Do you want savings or do you want to accomplish your vision?
4. I will always be available to help you whenever needed or wanted.
5. Here is what comes next…start calling the subs and get them lined up.
6. If a sub doesn’t work out, just let me know – I have others that can do the job.
7. Don’t let a situation or mistake (they will happen) get you down. We can fix or repair anything.

Rob, you lived up to what UBuildIt and you personally promised. Your experience, knowledge, situational awareness, and steadfast support were instrumental in helping Cindy and I accomplish all that we hoped for in our home. Your calm demeanor kept us calm and confident throughout the project. A trusting relationship evolved from your involvement at each step.
