UBuildIt offers unique approach to home building

A unique approach to building gives lake residents looking for new homes — or remodeling work on existing homes — a different kind of option.

According to Robert Raditz, owner of UBuildIt-Greenville, there had always been two ways to build a house — hire a general contractor, or build it yourself — until UBuildIt opened their offices in Greenville.

UBuildIt-Greenville services the South Carolina Upstate by offering the benefits of hiring a builder with the benefits of doing it yourself.

"What we do comes somewhere in between," Raditz said. "You get the benefits of having a contractor because we are a builder with more than 26 years of collective experience in the building business, and you get the cost-saving benefit of being your own builder."

Raditz said UBuildIt's experience in construction complements the homeowner's desire to balance quality and expense. He said UBuildIt can put "builder's eyes" on a project to see things an inexperienced homeowner may not.

The relationship enables homeowners with little or no experience in construction to run their own building project. Ninety-five percent of the homeowners who choose UBuildIt have no construction experience.

With the help of UBuildIt, homeowners oversee subcontractors along with their own UBuildIt Construction Consultant on their side making sure everything is done right.

UBuildIt believes the system is the perfect way to put their clients in control of the building project, with pre-screened suppliers, subcontractors and vendors on hand, and guidance from the UBuildIt team.

"We don't just give them a manual and say, 'Read this and good luck on your project,'" Raditz said. "We are on the site of a new construction project 23 to 30 times throughout the construction process. We're out there as much as a builder, often times more than a builder."

"We're with you from the conception of the project until the very end of construction, we help you in planning the project, and once completed, we help you in executing the project through the construction process," he said. Raditz said the cost savings for homeowners fall between 15 and 25 percent compared to a typical builder.

"I think you also get a better built house with us because our fee is known up front and we have no financial incentive to cut corners," he said.
